Kardashians Lawrence, Schumer, Swift Share Celeb Selfies

The best sign of success in modern Hollywood happens when another celebrity wishes to join yourself on holiday and post pictures on Twitter.

This happened recently when Jennifer Lawrence, the Oscar-winning star of Silver Linings Playbook and The Hunger Games series, joined American stand-up comedian Amy Schumer and a gaggle of her schoolfriends on holiday.

Like normal people, they took photographs. In one picture, Lawrence is driving a jet ski while Schumer clings onto her, open-mouthed, as dazzled as anyone that this is really happening. In another, the lithe actress is perched on top of the heap of normal-sized women. Twitter buzzed and celebrity magazines slathered. In the lyrics from the entertainment website E ! “millions of years back, prophets foretold of the day when two queens would join together and produce a friendship so powerful, it might end all of the suffering in the planet. That day is today. ”

Certainly Lawrence, 24, is Hollywood’s sweetheart to the millennial generation — goofy, talented and big box office — as the 34-year-old Schumer is really a star ascending.

Schumer combines the comic charm of Lucille Ball having a filthiness that will have a trucker blush. Her YouTube clips have millions of views, she made Time magazine’s list of the very most influential people in Hollywood and she‘s written and starred in Trainwreck, directed from the king of goofball comedy, Judd Apatow, who co-produced Bridesmaids.

Alone, all these women is big, but together they‘re a totemic force of funny, feminist cool. It‘s only recently that celebs have started to maneuver in herds, like extremely glossy cows with perfect teeth. Social media has given rise towards the celebrity power pack : usually female, these gangs continue holidays and share clothes, jokes and, apparently, men. Then they post the pictures on Instagram.

Taylor Swift, the 25-year-old singer-songwriter who has got sold 40 million albums, and model Karlie Kloss, 23, continue a road trip to Big Sur, California. It‘s Thelma and Louise without frowning or death. In another, we view Cara Delevingne together with her fellow model and television personality Kendall Jenner.

The benefit of the behaviour is obvious : celebrities, like zoo animals, tend to be more interesting to watch when there is much more than part of them. This really is well understood by Kris Jenner, the mother of Kim Kardashian and Jenner, and patron saint of “Why am I watching this? ” TV. She realised long ago that while one Kardashian might lurk in the bottom of the celebrity news site, seven Kardashians — each with the own social media profile — were an entertainment goldmine.

Kim pouting at her iPhone Isn‘t fun, but her sister Khloe hitting her over the top having a handbag certainly is. Swift’s celebrity posse is impressive. It includes Lena Dunham, creator of Girls, New Zealand singer Lorde and model Gigi Hadid. They happen to be seen holidaying upon the Californian island of Catalina.

Inside an interview with VanityFair, Swift mentioned her clique as “the sisterhood” and admitted they wouldn‘t reconsider sharing men. And operating like a sisterhood enables their fan bases to cross-pollinate as well as grow.

Swift’s fans — she‘s 41. 1 million followers on Instagram alone — are likelier to hear Lorde after they have seen the 2 sharing a smoothie in Los Angeles. It‘s direct marketing, Hollywood style.

These packs became ubiquitous. There‘s a model crew ; there‘s a British crew. There‘s also the grand dames : actresses Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore, smiling coyly over a mountain of quinoa.

Your web tribe could be as significant like the performance of your respective latest film or album, a sign of your respective desirability and star ranking.

Much more crucially, they‘re a style of support. Because what these women share — apart from fans — is their industries remain dominated by men.

In Hollywood, top-earning actresses take home about 40 per cent from the salaries of the male co-stars. Lawrence was paid less compared to the men in American Hustle despite having won an Oscar the previous year.

In case a good power pack can boost business, bring commercial success and promote equality, what will it make a difference when you have slept using the same boy?

Says Swift : “We even have girls in your group that have dated a similar people. It’s almost such as the sisterhood has this type of higher place on possibilities of priorities for those. It’s so a lot more important than some guy it didn’t work out with.

“When you’ve got this number of girls who need one another around we want one another, during this climate, when it’s so difficult for ladies to become understood and portrayed properly inside the media … now greater than ever we have to be good and kind to one another and never judge one another. ” (source:theaustralian.com.au)
